Vintage Valentine's Day Printables

Hi guys!

Just popping in today to share a couple of vintage printable images you can use for Valentine cards, tags or other creative projects.

This vintage sheet music is from my own collection, and I've used it for several projects over the last couple of years.

I decoupaged it to the love letter box that is on my Vintage Door Valentine Mantel right now. {Also shown in my blog header}

This would be really cute to make Valentine cones with, decoupage a keepsake box or even as a fun element on your vintage romantic Valentine's Day table. This could be the starting point for a sweet anniversary project, as well. The possibilities are endless!

This sweet vintage postcard is also from my collection. Although it mentions a "get well message" on the edge, that is easily covered with ribbon or paper {or snipped off}. Of course, it could be used as a get well card, too : )

This postcard was the starting point for the wedding invitations I created for my daughter's DIY budget wedding {more about that here}

Simply right-click the images to save to your computer, and print in any size you need. For the postcard, you could also edit it with PicMonkey to add your own printed text.

Happy Valentine creating, friends!

Woodland Nut Babies {2013}

Oh my, things have been a little crazy over here trying to get ready for our drive to California this weekend! Would anyone like to fish-sit for us? ; )

Today I'm going to share a little craft project that I originally posted last year around this time.
Crafting these little "nut babies" is a Christmas time tradition in our family.

This little one is the newest addition to the Nut Family : ) My daughter made this one, and decided to create a little cap from paper instead of our usual acorn caps.

Below is the simple tutorial from my post last year. I hope you have fun creating your own little nut babies!

I really can't remember how the first one came to be, but these little cuties have been appearing at our house at Christmas time for probably ten years now.

We've made ornaments out of them, but usually just tuck them in to the branches of the Christmas tree. They also make darling doll house babies!

Here's what you will need to create your Woodland Nut Baby:

*Hollowed out Walnut shells for the nut baby's cradle.
Try to split the Walnut as evenly as possible. The ones I used for this were a little "choppy"-I think they were leftovers from last year.

*Small wooden beads for the heads.

*Acorn caps. These came from actual acorns, but I seem to remember you can get these at craft stores as well.

*Cotton balls. I split one in half for two nut babies.

*Fabric scraps for creating the little "blanket" top. I used craft felt for these.

*Hot glue gun

One year we painted some of the Walnut shells silver. Natural or painted? You decide!

I have some fabric leaves just waiting for a little project, so I'm going to try something a little different. I'm tucking one into one of the shells for the nut baby to rest on. Kind of adds to the "woodland" feel, don't you think?

Now hot glue an acorn cap onto the wooden bead. Doesn't it make the cutest little baby head? Sometimes we'll draw a little face on these, but today I'm leaving these plain.

Now hot glue the head to the inside edge of the nut shell.

Now take a piece of cotton ball and fill up the shell. Sorry about the fuzzy photos!

Fill the shell with enough cotton to create a puffy look under the little fabric scrap blanket that comes next.

Cut a little piece of fabric the approximate shape of the nut shell.
Lay it over the cotton and begin tucking it in around the edges and under the head. When you like the way it looks, you can add a little touch of hot glue to keep it in place, but it really isn't necessary.

And that's all there is to it! After all these years, I still think they're just adorable.

Don't they look cozy tucked into their nest?

 Nighty-night babies...

I'll be back soon to share what will probably be the last little bits of Christmas around our house here in Colorado before we take off for California on Saturday. It's just going by too quickly!

I hope you're having a wonderful December week and thanks for coming by today, friends!

Vintage Inspired Bottles

I just realized something today.

I've been a bottle collector for 40 years!

I have always always loved pretty little glass things, but to my recollection, my love of pretty bottles began when I was in 4th grade. My teacher had a tiny blue green bottle, shaped like a "genie bottle", and I fell in love with it.

Well, I can't recall how it came about {I may have pestered her mercilessly} but she ended up giving me that little bottle and I thought I had been bestowed with the most amazing treasure in the world. Seriously.

I still had that little bottle up until a few years ago, and now I'm so sad I let it go!

Yes, I promise to seek psychological help soon ;)

Forty years later, I'm here to share some easy ideas for creating home and holiday decor using old (or new) bottles and some items you probably already have around your home and in your junk stash.
Come on, you know you have one.

Although I did not drink the contents of these amber brown jugs, I was more than happy to receive them from a family member for all manner of craft-y purposes.
You can see how I used some of these for Valentine "Love Potion" bottles back in January here.

You may recall seeing these in our Nature Inspired Foyer.
I simply pasted a vintage bird image, and the front panel of a note card with a pine cone, onto the brown jugs.

To give them a little update for our winter decor, I used vintage glass glitter to add a little frosty sparkle to them

To one, I added a glass stopper from a vintage decanter, and to the other I added a glass door knob as a stopper. This is such an easy way to add one of a kind pieces to your decor without spending any money!

I created some brown bottle ornaments, that are also pretty on a mantel or incorporated into your other seasonal decor.

I decoupaged vintage sheet music stamped with a bird to this bottle, layered with a smaller cherub image. I added a glittery star, a hand stamped "hope" tag, a white cotton scrap ribbon and a metal wire loop so the bottle can be hung on the Christmas tree if desired.

I used a strong adhesive to glue white enamel drawer pulls to the top of the bottles.

Some I embellished with pieces of hand stamped cotton fabric, metal snowflakes and glitter stars.

I really love the old fashioned look of the brown glass with the white enamel top!

I almost like the plain side better. Hmm...

With this clear glass round bottle, I made a little snow globe style decoration.

It's filled with Epsom salts for 'snow', a tiny Christmas tree and some sparkly little jewels and stars.

I added a cork to the top and created a little cardboard flag with a vintage style snowman sticker, and a tiny jingle bell at the top.

This last one is another brown bottle, this time with a vintage style Father Christmas holding a glittery star.

I found several glass stoppers for spice jars in my "stuff" and decided to dress one up a bit by gluing a glass door knob to the top of it to make a more substantial top for this bottle. It doesn't really fit snugly in the top, but I love the way it looks!

These are just a few of the ways I've embellished bottles in my forty year bottle hoarding 'career'. :)

Some of these are available in the shop, but some are staying put in my winter decor for now.

I hope I've given you a little inspiration for some things you might create this season with items you may already have in your crafting supplies.

December is flying by too quickly-eek! See you all soon!
