Creating a Pretty Life- It's In the Details {the tool bag}

I realize that "pretty" is in the eye of the beholder. But to my eye,
a traditional plastic or metal tool box isn't really the nicest thing to look at. If an opportunity arises to use something unique and personal instead of the obvious store-bought choice, I'm definitely going with unique!

I picked up this vintage leather portfolio case at a thrift store for around $3.00, probably about six or seven years ago. It has been well used in a variety of ways over the years from holding files, carrying art and craft supplies {even on vacation} to storing important documents.

For some time now, I have used it as my tool bag. I've tied a pretty vintage hankie that belonged to my grandmother onto a chunky leather strap that I added. I've always said I got my 'creative genes' from her, and I really enjoy having reminders of her around me.

The shoulder strap was added {from a thrift store leather handbag} and works great when I need to tote the bag with me somewhere.

I can fit all of the everyday tools I need to get to often in the bag. It's really helpful for a scatter-brained creator like me who tends to have stuff in all parts of the house!

Yes, I do keep miscellaneous screws in a cute burlap bag. Why not?

There's just something about a worn leather bag that makes me happy.
Yeah, I'm a weirdo like that :)

There are so many ways to make the everyday details of life a little prettier, a little more special, a little more you.

Today, a worn leather bag and a sentimental hankie is working for me :)

What are some of the ways you've made the items you work with in your home more suited to your personal style? I'd love to hear about it!

  1. What a great find! Love the look of the bag and what a great idea to convert it into a tool bag! I'm like you ... I have stuff stored in different areas of the house and then can't find those screws when I need 'em. This is the perfect solution and the bag is so pretty, too.

  3. I love this idea. I keep my most used tools in a vintage picnic box on my dining room hutch. I love having my tools handy and like that know one would suspect all that hardware is tucked in such a pretty case.
