I know it's hard to believe. Burlap has been all the rage for quite some time now, but I had never owned a piece before. A couple of weeks ago I came across a piece about 3' x 4' at the thrift store for 50 cents. Alas, my chance to jump on the burlap bandwagon!
I've had these old windows for about seven years. If you have a minute, you can pop over here to see how I used this white one over my "faux mantel" in the master bedroom last Christmas.
I just cut a piece of the burlap the size of the window frame. I could have done a better job of ironing it!
I attached it to the back of the frame with pieces of velcro. This is the super sticky-backed velcro. I'm pretty sure we used this to hold our t.v. & video equipment together at one time! It's what I had, so I used it. I added a little hot glue to the back of each piece as well.
I could have easily tacked the burlap to the back of the frame, but I wanted it to be easy to change whatever was on display on the front.
I used some pearl head pins, and on some I slipped a vintage button over it. This is obviously not going to hold anything too weighty, but the pins can easily hold photos or pretty fabric scraps and ribbons onto the burlap.
Pretty postcard from my friend living in China.
I will probably sell this piece, but if I do end up keeping it I think I will hang a few of my daughter's wedding photos in front of the burlap on a pretty lace ribbon.
There you have it, my first burlap project ever. I have some ideas for the piece I have left over, and of course I'll show you when I have it ready.
How about you guys? Have you used burlap much? What was your favorite project you've done with it?
Thanks for coming over, friends!
