December Update

Hello all!

I thought I would pop in with a little update. The last couple of months have felt like a marathon
of movement and decision making, and I am tired! :)
My dad passed away the first week in October, and we made the decision to move from Colorado to California to be closer to my mom and family during this hard season of changes.

We arrived in California the first week in November, and are staying with my mom for another month or so while we sort through what the future holds for all of us, and look for a place of our own.
I knew I was going to have to drive a moving truck, which was really intimidating. In the end, I chose a 16 foot truck. After the first few nervous hours of the trip, it ended up being pretty fun to drive!
I would like you to pause for a moment in silent awe {smile} at my ability to pare down the belongings of myself and 3 kids to fit in a truck that had a 15-1/2 foot x 7-1/2 foot space inside!
I knew it would require us to get rid of a TON of stuff, which was really challenging, but I was also very happy to get a fresh start with much less.

Three of the kids and I are sharing the family room here at my mom's house, sleeping on futons and an air mattress. I'm sure you can imagine, it can be pretty stressful at times. But we are warm and safe and, most importantly, together!

Not gonna lie, I'm missing having a bedroom!

Experiencing our first Thanksgiving without Dad was really painful, but we were blessed to have lots of family and friends together on Thursday, and we truly have so much to be grateful for.

Sometimes I wonder if there will ever be a time in my life when I feel settled. My family has gone through so many changes over the past several years! I really have to resist falling into the trap of feeling like I'm waiting for my "real" life to begin.
A couple of months ago, I was pretty focused on upcoming projects for the blog, and {it seems} in the blink of an eye I'm living in another state, grieving the loss of my dad, and really struggling to find a new daily rhythm for my family.

Don't get me wrong, this is where I really want to be right now, but we are naturally in a period of major adjustment. I am really looking forward to getting to a place where I have a new space to put my stamp on, and coming up with some creative projects to share again!

I am looking back over the last 2 months wondering how in the world we got from 'Point A' to 'Point B'.
I know {as always} that it's the stepping stones of grace that God continues to provide for us in this crazy life!

Until I get back in the blogging groove, I would love it if you would come over and stay in touch with me on the Creating a Life Facebook page!

I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving, friends.

Welcome, December!

Jeanette

  2. Jeanette, I'm happy you were able to make the move successfully and safely. Kudos to you for accomplishing that, and all in the 16' truck! That's incredible, really it is. When my daughter and her husband moved to FL with the same size truck, I thought that was impressive, but wow. May many blessings be yours, now and always.

  3. Jeanette,
So happy the travel to California was successful for all of you. I know you will find a wonderful place to call home. I think it is so great you will be near your mom as you all grieve the loss of your dad. You know they say that as you travel through the tough journey's of life it is hard but when you get on the other side of the journey it is totally worth it. I think you are headed for new and beautiful things ahead. So proud of you that you could drive a 16 foot truck. You go girl!!!!!!

I'm sure that God has a plan for you! I'm sure that your mother is loving your company. Losing your dad is difficult and being with the ones you love will help you all heal.
