Free Vintage Christmas Images-Grandpa's Book Pt. 2

It's a l'il chilly here in Colorado! My daughter made chocolate cookies this evening using this super easy Cake Mix Cookie recipe. I think I am destined for a date with a handful of yummy chocolate treats and a steaming mug of tea when I'm finished passing on a little Christmas cheer to you!

A few days ago I told you about an antique Christmas book 
that was given to my grandfather by his grandmother in 1925! I promised to share some more of the images with you to save and use for your own cards, tags, projects etc. and I'm back to do just that. *See disclaimer in first post about my being too lame and tired to create a printable project for you.

 Little boys in flying machines! Hungry reindeer! Oh, the drama! : )

 

As I mentioned in the first post, these won't be super high quality images, but still charming! You should be able to right-click and save the images to your computer to print and use in your own creative projects.

I will post the last 5 or so images over the weekend. Cookies and tea, here I come!

Just A Moment

Time marches on.Thanksgiving was a week ago (!) Christmas, and the very last days of 2012, lie just ahead.
 

 It's only natural, especially at this time of year, to be focused on upcoming events. Celebrations with family and friends, maybe some shopping....the big "to do" list. 

Today I'm challenging myself to be more present in the moment. Pull my head out of tomorrow and acknowledge what and who is important right now. After all, creating a life means recognizing this moment, too,  is my life, right?And it all just goes so very quickly.












Would you join me today? When things feels a little stressed, a little pressured, kind of overwhelming.....stop and ask yourself: if this was the last moment you had, what would really be important?

Peace to you, my friends, on this late-November night.

A Sentimental Vignette

The other day I shared this photo of the beginnings of a vignette on top of my behemoth cabinet. I originally put the old tool crate up there thinking it might be safer-you know, keep the iron headboard from falling over on our heads. I just didn't want to secure the bed to the wall.....

Well, I changed my mind (shocker). I decided it just covered up too much of the old headboard I really wanted to see. So I took it down. Sigh. Show of hands: Can anyone guess why Jeanette might have a bad shoulder? Two bad shoulders? I'm so glad I have an exceptionally tall (and helpful) 15 year old daughter : )

What can I say? I chose visually pleasing over safety. Please pray for my kids : )

 

I put a much smaller wooden toy box, along with a string of mittens and a hat, all from my kids' babyhood. I love using sentimental things to decorate!

 Two of these sweet little dresses my baby girls wore. The one in the middle has exquisite detailing and I found it at a thrift store for pennies.

 I made a little "clothesline" from a jingle bell garland.

 Add a sweet little doll and a classic Pooh bear.....

Sometimes it's nice to decorate for a winter look that can go beyond the normal Christmas decorations.

 Sweet and sentimental, vintage Winter charm. I like that.

Free Vintage Christmas Images-Grandpa's Book Pt 1

I don't remember exactly how it came into my possession, but I have had an antique Mother Goose book that belonged to my grandpa when he was a boy for a long time.

Some time ago I noticed there was actually another book tucked into the back pages (duh).

Last week, I was going through a stack of old "Victoria" Christmas magazines, and there it was! "A VISIT TO SANTA CLAUS".
Funny......I don't remember leaving it with the magazines.....
What the heck is wrong with me?? I can't remember anything!

There inside the sadly tattered cover it says : 
From Grandma to Warren (my grandpa) Xmas 1925! I'm guessing he must have been about 7 or 8 years old when his grandma gave this to him way back when. Pretty cool, huh?

So, here's the fun part (I hope!). The illustrations are so sweet, I thought I would share them with you here, to use for whatever your Christmas hearts desire!
 


I just don't have the time or the will to create a printable (like a tag, etc). But I think you should be able to right click and save the cropped images here and then put your own brilliant creative touch on them!

Slow Start: It's Beginning to Look a *Little* Like Christmas

It sure seems like everywhere I look (online) most people have their Christmas trees and all their decorating up already, like, DAYS ago.  

I really try hard not to get caught up in the whole comparison thing. The older I get, the more I know that certain things about me and the way I operate just "are the way they are". I'm mostly okay with that : )

Anyway, we're just getting started over here. The tree is up, and as of this evening, decorated. I have a little story about the tree, and I'll share it on another day soon.




You can see we don't have alot of space, but the kids and I think it's pretty cozy.

 

 The wall shelf does sort of look like it's hanging a bit far up in space there, but this is where our stockings will hang, so I'm hoping they will fill in the empty spot.

So many of the things in my home have had multiple lives, and this hanging rack is no exception. Several years back I wanted to make a hanger for our stockings. I scrounged up this rough board (garage? driveway? Ha! I can't remember!) drilled holes in it, painted it black and put plain white porcelain knobs on it. 

 

It has since been used for many different purposes including in my kids' closet for hats, a drying rack for flowers, etc. This year it's back to Christmas stockings and sporting some sweet little white iron birds.
 

There's my wall candle sconce I made from an old light fixture! We used it in the dining room for Thanksgiving, and I just love it.  I think it's gonna get a little evergreen added at some point...
 

 
 
This white wooden crate has had many lives also! I decided to put it on top of the t.v. cabinet to display some of our beloved Christmas books. When you have little square footage, it really pays to use all the vertical space you can get! There are many more books than this, and I'll show you soon how I display those.

I'm still fussing around with this corner, but I like where it's going. I put the table lamp into an old bucket and tucked in some artificial pine branches.

 A few "pretty little things" from the wall shelf above the settee. 

Beginnings of a vignette on top of my bookshelf armoire, using an old wooden tool box and an old rusted white iron bed. It's all coming along, slowly but surely. I'm hoping to feel "done" by December 1st. 

Hey, I have one little creative project to share also! I was so inpired by Tanya at twelveOeight's twiggy book page wreath, I just had to try a similar one!

I knew I had all the stuff: a twiggy wreath, vintage sheet music for making leaves (she used book pages-love!) those little pearly things (technical term) on wired stems, some wide black silk ribbon, a little nest with eggs, and I printed and cut out the birds from The Graphics Fairy . 

 It's hard to believe that any of you wouldn't know about her site, but if you don't-GO THERE NOW! Oh my goodness-such a wealth of creative goodness......


Here's my version. I spent less than 30 minutes putting this together from things I already had. Fast, free, fun, nature inspired cuteness! My kind of project.

Last thing! (I have blogger A.D.D today) Yesterday I was having a bit of a rough time and I looked out my bedroom window and saw THIS. Instantly, I was reminded that the God who does this knows and cares about what is happening with me. True tidings of comfort and joy.
